JOB SUMMARY – MEDICAL-SURGICAL
The RN on the Medical Surgical is a direct care giver. He/she is responsible for all aspects of patient care for a diverse group of patients for his/her shift. As the responsible caregiver he/she will also be directing the care of the CNA responsible for the activities of daily living for the patients as well. The RN will seek the guidance of the charge nurse whenever appropriate. The RN will work within his/her scope of practice as written in the WV Nurse Practice Act
QUALIFICATIONS
· Registered Nurse licensed in West Virginia or eligible.
· State issued temporary Registered Nurse license.
· Competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
· Competent to provide care to patients while utilizing the nursing process.
· BLS, ACLS and Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification is required for nurses working in the Medical-Surgical; BLS, ACLS and PALS certification is required for nurses working in the Emergency Department; BLS certification is required for nurses working the Extended Care Unit; BLS and ACLS certification is required for nurses working in Surgical Services. (If not certified at time of hire due to recent graduation, the certification is to be obtained within one year of hire).

· WV State Police fingerprinting
